About D&D Dogs, Inc.
D&D Dogs, Inc. was started in 2003 when we (Driftwood Nomad and Darrly Chang, residents of Second Life), wanted a project to work on. After playing with a Linden-made "follow drone", the idea to make a pet that follows its owner around was born. But what kind of pet did we want to make?
Darwood
After some trial and error on the scripting side, a reasonably stable follow script was created. We now had Darwood following us around. Great! Now what does any dog worth its salt know how to do? Learn tricks! This was where the limitations of LSL caused us to compromise.
At the time, there was no way to automatically send a working script (a "trick") to an object (the "dog"). So we decided to add all the trick scripts to the dog, and enable them only when a user paid our obedience school. This worked great, but tricks were limited. If we came out with a new trick, the old dogs couldn't learn it. You literally couldn't teach an old dog new tricks!
After several SL updates, we finally got the llRemoteLoadScriptPin function within LSL, which allowed us to finally get our dogs to learn new tricks. Several new breeds and tricks were created, and continue to be created to this day.
D&D Dogs currently has over a dozen breeds of dogs, and just as many tricks they can learn. The success of D&D Dogs has allowed us to purchase the island of Pawaii, now the D&D Dogs headquarters. We are still primarily a two-man operation working in our spare time.
